Trianon treaty - still alive?

The main aim of this thesis is an analytical view on Slovak-Hungarian relations between 1989 - 2010 with a particular focus on the Treaty of Trianon reminiscence present at the political scene of both countries. The thesis illustrates the Slovak- Hungarian relations on both - interstate and intrastate niveau. In particular, the thesis focuses on controversial issues occurring at Slovakia's and Hungary's political scene that induced immense discrepancies accompanied by revisionist tendencies. The thesis structure consists of five chronologically - ordered main chapters. Each chapter is dedicated to certain time period analysis. The chapter named "The Treaty of Trianon" provides us with historical keystone. The following chapters are dealing with most recent relevant affairs being resposible for creating the qualitative niveau of Slovak-Hungarian relations between 1989 - 2010. The political processes in the Slovak-Hungarian political field recapitulation alongside with the evaluation of the up-to-date presence the Treaty of Trianon reminiscence are to be handled with in the conclusice chapter of this thesis.
British appeasement during 1920's? Analysis of British foreign policy towards Germany from the end of the World War I until Great Depression by the concept of appeasement

This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of British foreign policy towards Germany since the end of the first world war until the outbreak of Great Depression through the policy of appeasement. Theoretical part presents various understanding of the concept of appeasement and identifies several criteria of appeasement based on which the British policy towards Germany is subsequently assessed during defined historical period. The main part of the thesis contains a description and analysis of the attitude of the Great Britain towards Germany in selected foreign policy events through the concept of appeasement. The main goal of this thesis is to answer the research question whether Great Britain applied a policy of appeasement towards Germany already during the 1920s.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation - interests of the member states

This thesis examines the interests of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation with a narrow focus on the interests of the four Central Asian members of the organization. The first two chapters are devoted to theoretical approaches to international relations and the concept of state interest. The work considers liberal-idealistic tradition as the most suitable theoretical approach for applying. There is no single, universally accepted definition of state interest, therefore the assessment of national interest is always subjective in nature. The state interests are then compared in the three chapters focusing on political view, security and economic cooperation. The security cooperation within the international organization is the only area of cooperation with tangible results. Economic cooperation among the countries as members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is indeed verbally declared, however, the real results are not visible. The work concludes that the common interests of the four Central Asian states are in the area of security and economic cooperation, cooperation in transport infrastructure development, as well as solving energy issues and issues related to water resources. Influence of selected extra-parliamentary extreme right-wing actors on the international relationship between Slovak Republic and Hungary

The aim of this thesis is the analysis of the influence of Slovak brotherhood and Hungarian guard on the international relations between the Slovak Republic and Hungary. Both the impact of activities of Slovak brotherhood and the Hungarian guard and the evolution of these organizations are under research. Thesis also focuses on theoretical definition of the extreme right and offers a brief overview of the historical development of Slovak-Hungarian relations, as well as of the phenomenon of the extreme right. Subsequently, the work addresses the development of Slovak brotherhood and Hungarian guard, which is followed by specific investigation of the activities of these organizations in two aspects. The first one is the membership to the extreme right; the latter consists of the relation to the issue of Slovak- Hungarian coexistence. Finally, this work analyses the organizations' position in the political system and their impact on the international relationship between Slovak republic and Hungary.
